My Birthday Cake

Truffle CakeMy birthday is in December.
When I was a child, I always had to wait for Christmas to get any presents, but I never really suffered having a birthday near Christmas. Birthdays were never a a big deal in our family. Now I also realize that the days before Christmas was a very hectic season for my parents.

INGREDIENTS:
Cake Layer
* 175 grams butter
* 3 eggs
* 2 dl (200 ml) sugar
* 2 dl (200 ml) flour
* ½ teaspoon baking powder

Garnish
* 300 grams almond paste
* 2 egg whites
* 2-3 tablespoons orange juice or Curacao-type liqueur

Chocolate Truffle
* 200 grams dark chocolate
* 1 dl whipping cream
* 25 grams butter

Decorate the cake with small silver dragees, or cake sprinkles and marzipan

METHOD:
1. Melt butter and allow it to cool
2. Beat eggs and sugar very well.
3. Add flour, baking powder and butter.
4. Fold baking paper and line a 24x24 cm cake tin.
5. Butter the bottom of the paper.
6. Spread the batter evenly into the prepared and lined tin.
7. Bake in the middle of the oven at 175 °C [350 °F] for 20–25 minutes.
8. Now, you may freeze the cake layer before using, if you wish.

Garnish:
1. Grate almond paste roughly.
2. Add egg whites and mix until smooth.
3. Taste with orange juice or liqueur.
4. Make strips with the mixture using a spritz press.
5. Allow at least about 2 cm space between each stripe.
6. Bake the cake in the middle of the oven at 225 °C for about 7 minutes.
7. Allow it to cool.

Truffle:
1. Melt chocolate in a double boiler.
2. Bring cream to the boil in a saucepan.
3. Add butter and melt it in the cream.
4. Pour the mixture into the melted chocolate.
5. Beat vigorously until it thickens.
6. Make strips between the strips of the almond paste.
6. Cool the cake before serving.

Well Patricia, I stopped counting years after my 50th birthday. I am about twenty two thousand six hundred and thirty five days old, I think :)
